Black Obsidian is a very protective stone. It will form a shield around you to guard against negativity and it will absorb negative energies from your total environment. I usually carry a piece of Black Obsidian in a cloth bag in my handbag as well.
In light of the fact that Black Obsidian collects and stores Negative Energy from around you it is best that it is cleansed regularly in cool running water, for approximately 5-10 minutes each week. Just place it in a plain glass with cool water running over it for the 5-10 minutes nothing else just water.
In healing Black Obsidian is believed to reduce the pain of arthritis, as well as back pain. I personally have experienced that it has lessened my own back pain when I place pieces of Black Obsidian on my spine from top to bottom for about 30 minutes at a time. I usually listen to soothing music and relax during the time as well. It is also said to help joint problems and to ease cramps. It can aid in digestion, in my experience I place a piece of Black Obsidian stone, in a glass of water room temperature for about one hour then I drink it, I usually do this about 3-4 times a day. Generally I usually notice the effects seem to be noticeable after about 3 to 4 days.
Black Obsidian is a good way to form a tight shield against negativity around a person, home, work environment or even an entire family. Black Obsidian absorbs negative energies from the around you, in good positive ways and you can mentally feel the shield against negative people and negative attitudes that you may encounter.
You can place a piece on your desk in a work environment that is less than optimal. You can place several pieces in your home to keep balance in your home, and absorb any negativity around the home. You can also place this lovely stone anywhere else you feel you need protection. It can be as easy as from your pocket to a cloth bag in your handbag or under your pillow as you sleep.
However, because it constantly collects the negativity make sure to cleanse the Black Obsidian once a week in the cool running water. I also then sit the stones in a window sill in the sun light to recharge it to the fullest potential of the stone.
